About Your Scenic Furnas Hike

The day starts travelling towards the south coast of the island. We make a stop in Vila Franca do Campo, the island’s first capital, to savor the Queijadas da Vila, the typical local dessert. We then arrive at Lagoa das Furnas for a hike that allows you to discover and enjoy the wonderful views of the island of São Miguel.

The walk begins in the parish of Furnas and allows you to stroll through the beautiful Lagoa das Furnas. It is an easy and accessible walk along a dirt road. Along the trail, you see the Lagoon hot springs, an area where locals use the high temperatures of the ground to make traditionally cooked meals.

The trail continues along the lagoon, where you can enjoy the serenity of the lake and its surroundings. On the way back, you find the Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Vitorias, with its 19th-century neo-Gothic architecture, and Gaspar Peak, which offers a magnificent view of Furnas parish, where the walk ends.

After lunch, we visit this beautiful area of different landscapes, with its fumaroles and sources of warm water, and if you want, you can even taste the mineral water. Then we make a stop at the Pico do Ferro, where you can admire the excellent view of the crater around the Furnas Valley.

We continue our tour along the north coast, visiting the Gorreana plantation and tea factory, unique in Europe, where you can enjoy a cup of tea and the magnificent view of the plantations and the north coast of the island.

On the way back to the hotel, we stop at the viewpoint of Santa Iria to admire the majestic cliffs of the north coast of the island.
